Kathy is professor emeritus at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN and serves on the summer faculty at the University of St. Thomas in their Graduate Programs in Music Education. She plays for classes at BalletMet in Columbus, where her improvisation skills get a workout. Kathy has over 30 years of experience as an individual and group piano instructor, as well as a teacher of music theory, music history, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and director of university choirs. She recently relocated to Columbus, Ohio to be near family and is accepting new students of all ability levels into her studio. Currently she teaches students who range in age from 6 to 74.
Kathy earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota. She earned the License in Dalcroze Eurhythmics from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Throughout her career, Kathy has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist in numerous venues in the Midwest. As an educator, teacher trainer, and guest clinician she has appeared in classrooms, state, and national conferences. Her research on diverse topics in the fields of music education and performance have been published in Music Educators Journal, The Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, American String Teacher, and the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. When not teaching, Kathy enjoys golfing, biking, and taking her grandsons to the park. She loves walking around her neighborhood in Clintonville and in the Metro Parks.
